History of College

Established in 1966,Purash-Kanpur Haridas Nandi Mahavidyalaya is one of the oldest ruralgeneral degree College in Howrah district affiliated to the University of Calcutta.Long cherished dream of Late Haridas Nandi for providing higher education to the youths of the locality was materialized under the benevolent leadership of his able son Dr. Jitendra Nath Nandi with the whole hearted participation, help and cooperation of some dedicatedsouls and fine minds of the locality. Contributions received as lands, money and even free labour from the local people helped construction of a small building in which undergraduate courses in Bengali, English, Political Science, History, for B.A / B.Com Honours and General degrees of the affiliated university were started with teachers catering to students. The founder Governing Body under itsfuturist President and dynamic leadership of Principal steered it into becoming as one of the prestigious institutes of higher education for enlightening youths of rural Bengal. Principal, in his long tenures played vital roles in architecting the college into its present shape. With the passage of time and demand of the local youths more subjects were included time-to-time in its curricula for undergraduate degrees in BA/BSc/BCom. Therefore, setting off its enlightened journey with limited resources and infrastructure, the College has been steadily augmenting its infrastructure and resources for offering contemporary undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science.Though situated in an interior pocket of rural Bengal, because of the suitable courses and programmes delivered by energetic and experienced professors and teachers, adequate infrastructure and facilities, and active and cooperative office staff,Purash-Kanpur Haridas Nandi Mahavidyala has been reported as adegree rural colleges in Bengal contributing to its community development by providing quality higher education’ by the NAAC Peer Team in its visits in 2007 and 2016 and accredited with B+ grade.
